The connection between this article on Ted Nelson and my development of the animated text form is simple. Without Ted Nelson, the web would never have come into being. Yet it is not so much that Ted is the father of the web; rather, he came up with a magical idea for a new medium that would encompass all other mediums, and some of us are striving to transform the web as it currently exists into that medium.
One thing that Ted was absolutely right on about in this now six-year-old article was Napster. Indeed, the shit did hit the fan, forcing Napster to go under. Of course, Napster's zombie corpse still ravages across the web, just as Ted's indelible spirit must weigh down upon the web until it begins to reflect and encompass his rich ideas.
