The root image for the twenty transformations in this gallery was a headshot of Harlean Carpenter, evoking feminine glamour. I am referring to a commercially marketed type of feminine glamour, wherein femininity = style. I find nothing wrong with stylization or commercialism. Yes, commercialism can be destructive, if not properly balanced against ethical/moral considerations. Then again, ethical/moral restraint can stifle imagination. In such a paradigm femininity is politicized and takes on a hallucinatory quality. It is up to artists to properly hone their imaginations & give life to visions flowering out of representations rooted in apparent “realities.” To navigate the 20 transformations, click on the images themselves or on the Previous Image or Next Image links.
