Internal Permutations

Myspace is now a part of Illumination Gallery. One can approach myspace on a networking or a social level, or some combination thereof. If I have a criticism it comes down to myspace's too liberal use of the word "friends." "Contacts" would be more honest. Contacts can, in time, become friends and thus take on a human aspect. I joined myspace to make contact with people who might appreciate the web art I am presenting on Illumination Gallery. So far, so good. Traffic on Illumination Gallery has greatly increased since I started incorporating myspace.

The human aspect of myspace genuinely startled and inspired me. It inspired me to create Internal Permutations, the animation running above. Internal Permutation's core image was sampled from a myspace page posted by a woman in Texas named Jacie. I discovered Jacie's myspace page browsing myspace, as I often do, randomly clicking on friends' icons on pages I am visiting. Through exchanging e-mails, I came to know, respect, and care about Jacie. Internal Permutations represents a visual response to personal information conveyed me. Myspace can be painfully intimate. Revelations manifest in the online equivalent of Reality TV. What makes myspace unique is its perpetual 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year state.
