Sampling allows digital artists to home in upon the essence of what makes pop cultural imagery resonate. Although as a sampler I often use archival material, I do my best to avoid nostalgia, while letting romance play a role. Along those lines I have always felt a romantic affinity for B-movies. Their iconography haunts me. If nothing else, B-movies are about cross-pollination and regeneration.
My favorite B-movie website was Giants and Girls, with its wonderful image gallery, wherefrom I randomly grabbed an image, sampled it, and began playing around. Alas, Giants and Girls is no longer online.
