Light, Shadow, Darkness...Beauty! is my third Debbie Rochon web animation. B-Movie Diva was the first, Ready for her Digital Close-Up the second. Like other animations in the Digital Hallucinations section of Illumination Gallery, Light, Shadow, Darkness...Beauty! is, for all intents and purposes, the equivalent of a short film - granted, a silent film - a miniature horror movie, starring Debbie Rochon.
It is said of film actresses such as Debbie Rochon that the camera loves them. Debbie possesses a feeling for the camera that transcends the director and camera operator on the other side of the lens. Light, Shadow, Darkness...Beauty! plays off this magical quality. In the root image Debbie poses for/gazes into a camera. The animation sucks her into an alchemically charged electric witch's cauldron wherein she transforms. As a great horror film actress, Debbie is in equal measure seductress and monster. Horror films are driven by a schizophrenia exemplified externally/internally by Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Debbie is capable of being both Ms. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde. Light, Shadow, Darkness...Beauty! celebrates this. Composed of 476 frames, it lasts approximately 5 minutes and 20 seconds, then loops. A high-speed Internet connection is required and I recommend using Firefox as your browser. Even with a high-speed connection, due to its dense texture, the animation may initially run at a jagged rate. What I have learned from previously posting deeply textured web animations is that such animations often need to play through once before running at their proper rate. I do apologize for this inconvenience, but I feel it is necessary to constantly stretch the boundaries of the web as a medium.
