Intro to Dante Gabriel Rossetti: A Feminine Presence as Opposed to the Female Form

Like William Blake, Dante Gabriel Rossetti was both a visual artist and a writer, but he never struck a perfect balance between image and text, as Blake did. He also differed from Blake in his attitude toward human sexuality. Blake celebrated raw passion. Rossetti worshiped feminine presences. What made Rossetti a fine artist, however, is that he understood the difference between a feminine presence as opposed to the female form.
