The art world can be extremely snobbish, even cruel. An elite determines what is and is not true art. More importantly for living artists that same elite decides who is and is not a real artist. It is as if public opinion plays no role. In the end, however, art exists in the world for all to see. Not everyone goes to museums and galleries, but art can be reproduced in a fairly high-quality manner and the Internet has taken it to a whole new level of accessibility. When LeRoy Neiman passed on the other day, all you had to do to view his art was google his name. The so-called serious art world never took kindly to LeRoy Neiman, but I loved his work and created this animation upon learning of his death. The root image for the animation is LeRoy Neiman’s painting Kentucky Derby.
Animation duration: 22.6 seconds, before looping.
