Edvard Munch: the Abstract Nature of Love Intro

Intro to Edvard Munch: the Abstract Nature of Love

The Edvard Munch painting which serves as the root image for this animation is one of my favorite works of art. It is mysterious in a way that particularly appeals to me. Originally titled Love and Pain, the painting came to be known as Vampire after a critic mistakenly thought the woman in it was a female vampire draining the life out of a male victim. In point fact, the painting depicts a pair of lovers embracing, with the woman possibly consoling the man, who seems in pain. For me the painting suggests the abstract nature of love.

Animation duration: 26.6 seconds, before looping.
